CBC Debate and a correction

Here is the first of what will be several all-candidates mayoralty discussions, recorded this morning at CBC Vancouver. Half was broadcast live on CBC Radio and TV, with the other half here on YouTube.

I want to correct a statement made in the discussion that I wanted to run for mayor in 2022, after I had moved to West Vancouver. It’s in the final few minutes of the discussion.

To be clear: I was encouraged by the current and previous mayor (and my councillor opponent, for that matter) to explore running for council (not for mayor) shortly after I arrived. After I talked to both of them about my political future, I chose not to run. My recollection is that I didn’t express criticism of the then-mayor in a meeting with her challenger. She had graciously encouraged me to meet everyone (including her opponent) before deciding about a council bid. I ought to have corrected his statement on the air this morning, but regrettably didn’t.

Events I subsequently wrote about prompted my decision about six months ago to run, which is what I’m doing.
