After years of writing columns critical of Mark Sager, Kirk Lapointe is now challenging him

Plenty of people write about how they don’t like the mayor of their city. 

Kirk Lapointe decided to go a step further.

“I’m tired of being on the sidelines and writing columns about this stuff and trying to affect change,” said Lapointe, a longtime news executive and 2014 Vancouver mayoral candidate, explaining why he is challenging West Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager in this October’s municipal election. 

“I think it’s time that I got off my seat and helped make some decisions.”

Lapointe’s announcement this week is the first major election move in the district of 44,000 people, which historically lacks the political parties or year-long campaigns of Metro Vancouver’s biggest municipalities.
