Today I’m releasing Part 2 of my three-part plan for West Vancouver, based on the hundreds of conversations and insights from the community. This part’s focus: Better Neighbourhoods, Stronger Business.
The highlights:
1. Fixing the basics first, with an immediate blitz to repair sidewalks and streets on routes used by schools, seniors and transit, backed by a pledge to fix 50 streetscape problems in 50 days in the spring of 2027.
2 Getting serious about bylaws, enforcing rules on term parking, traffic, e-bikes, e-scooters and noise consistently across the District, and eliminating pay parking.
3. Revitalizing West Vancouver’s four commercial villages — Ambleside, Dundarave, Horseshoe Bay and Caulfeild — with a Local Business Districts Plan, a review of commercial tax treatment, and a petition to the Province for an Empty Stores Tax.
4. Finishing the wildfire evacuation plan West Vancouver’s own strategy still lacks, including neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood evacuation routes and a full-time FireSmart Coordinator.
5. Building a Walkable Playground Strategy in year one, consulting families directly, fixing obvious deficiencies quickly, and creating a dedicated capital program with private-sector support.
A strong municipal government looks after the basics, and residents tell me they’re dissatisfied. These aren’t vague promises — they’re specific, they’re dated, and I intend to be held to every one of them.
